Spiti & Pin Valley Explorer is an experience like few others. Explore the landscape, cultures and traditions of the Spitian people of this corner of the higher Himalayas. Located in the western part of Himachal Pardesh, Lahaul – Spiti districts  borders China ( Tibet ) and Ladakh with similar topography, lifestyle, culture and religion.

On our journey we explore high altitude dry mountain desert landscape of Spiti Valley. These less explored lands takes you back in time with the simple yet joyful lives of the people living in these harsh terrains and climate. During the tour we visit monasteries, stay at the highest inhabited villages in the world, camp around Chandratal Lake, drive across and savor the views of the stunning Himalayas, visit high altitude lakes and pass through the high passes of Rohtang La & Kunzum La. This is an offbeat journey through regions that have less exposed to commercial tourism.

ITINERARY

Day 1:  September 2nd: Delhi to Manali
Delhi to Manali by overnight volvo bus. 

Day 2: September 3rd : Manali 
Arrive in Manali in the morning and check into the hotel. Day to relax, acclimatize and prepare yourself for the journey to the higher Himalayas. You can explore the town surrounded by mountains and the Beas river flowing through it. You can visit Hidimba temple, Mall Road, Old Manali and Vashisht hot water spring.  Overnight at Manali.

Day 3: September 4th: Manali to Kaza ( 200 kms )
After breakfast, we leave for Kaza, the headquarters of Lahaul- Spiti district. After we cross Rohtang pass and enter Lahaul-Spiti district the topography changes from lush and green forested mountains to dry desert mountains typical of this part of the Himalayas. We leave Lahaul valley as we cross Kunzum Pass ( the gateway to Spiti at 15000 feet ) and enter Spiti Valley. See the beauty of these mountains and the stunning landscape as we pass by remote mountain villages. Late afternoon we reach Kaza. Evening walk around Kaza town and market. Overnight at Kaza.


Day 4: September 5th: Kaza – Dhankar – Pin Valley ( 50 kms )

After breakfast leave for Dhankar fort and monastery. The Dhankar monastery is one of the most beautiful monuments of Spiti valley. Perched high on a cliff over the valley, this is a superb example of Spiti’s traditional architectural skills. Later we leave for the little explored and isolated but very beautiful Pin Valley. The river Pin runs through this beautiful valley which sits like a carpet of green with the backdrop of snow-capped mountains, contrary to the arid Spiti Valley. Visit the confluence of Spiti and Pin rivers and visit Kungri monastery on the way to Mud ( the last village in Pin valley ). In the evening we walk around and explore the village and mingle with the locals. Overnight at Mud. 

Day 5: September 6th: Pin Valley – Ki – Komic  ( 80 kms )
After breakfast visit Ki Monastery in the morning. Ki Monastery is one of the most important monasteries in Lahaul – Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. It is the biggest monastery of Spiti Valley and a religious training center for Lamas. Situated on a hilltop it enjoys splendid views of the mountains all around and the Spiti river flowing down in the valley. Later we visit the high altitude villages of Langza, Komic (the highest inhabited village in Asia ) and Hikim ( the highest post office in the world ). Experience Spitian hospitality with a stay at a traditional Spitian village home. Overnight at Langza / Komic village.

Day 6: September 7th: Komic – Chandratal Lake – Manali ( 250 kms )
Early morning we start from Komic and drive to Manali. On the way we stop and visit Chandratal Lake.  Chandratal is a beautiful high altitude lake at 14000 ft surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Later head back to Manali and reach by late evening. Overnight at Manali. 

Day 7: September 8th: Manali 
Morning and afternoon free to explore Manali. Late afternoon we take the overnight Volvo from Manali to Delhi. Overnight in volvo. 

Day 8: September 9th: Manali
Reach Delhi around 9 a.m. End of tour.

Group size typically between 5 and 15. Our travelers are friendly, open-minded, well traveled and we have a good gender mix on our tours.
